Mabel Crawford’s Bistro is the restaurant here at Fitzgeralds Vienna Woods Country House Hotel. We pride ourselves in giving our guests the best in upscale dining! With this mission in mind we were delighted that last year we won a Glanmire Business Award for being the ‘Best Place to Eat & Drink’ for the year ending 2017.
We are always delighted when people enjoy themselves and love the taste of our food which is made with the finest of Irish ingredients. Our Restaurant caters for everyone with a wide variety of menu options to choose from and boasts of old world elegance and charm.
Our restaurant has an interesting history and story to tell. One day, while moving an old catering fridge, a blocked doorway was found. The Maintenance Manager, was asked to demolish the boarded doorway and on doing so we discovered Lady Mabel Crawford’s old kitchen and pantry which dates back over 150 years! Our country house hotel was originally the private residence of Lord and Lady Crawford, founders of the Beamish Brewery. We renamed our Bistro in honour of the Lady of the House and her legacy lives on in the hotel. By looking around you can see the history and story behind the restaurant. It showcases several original fireplaces, and interesting features such as an old safe built into the wall, cubbyholes and a walk-in wine cellar.
A special area in Mabel’s Crawford Bistro, the snug, is very popular! A little nook in the wall perfect for semi private dining with a comfy semi-circle seat perfect for intimate get togethers.
Another interesting area off the side of the restaurant is the Oak room used for our breakfast buffet. It is rich in history with thick wooden doors with a face and eyes carved into them. This tells us that it was once a billiard room but originally it was a library.
